Hi, I’m Allison.
Welcome to Eco Rated Home!
I am from Victoria, B.C., Canada. I started this blog in order to share my experience falling into multiple research holes trying desperately to determine what consumer products would not bring toxic, endocrine-disrupting (and potentially cancer-causing) chemicals into my home. I am a chronic migraine sufferer with multiple food allergies (peanuts, tree-nuts, and eggs) and so have always been very aware of the potential toxins in my environment and how these affect my health on a day-to-day basis. I do my best to use products in my home and on my body that do not contain harmful chemicals without compromising on quality. This can be difficult to discern at times because some eco-friendly products (deodorant, for example) do not function in the real world very well.
With this blog, I hope to make the product research and comparison experience very easy! My goal is to provide the most comprehensive, easy to read content all in one place. I review all forms of consumer products but mostly stick to home decor, furniture, cookware and other kitchen goods, appliances, fashion, and makeup.
I review these products with a focus on their eco-friendly, chemical-free and non-toxic qualities, but also their quality and usefulness. I do not include products that compromise on quality in favour of being 100% natural. If the product does not add value to your life, there is no point in acquiring it. You can learn more about the criteria I use to evaluate products here.
As a PhD candidate, I have plenty of research experience and am able to distill important information in an accessible manner. I also feel I would quality for an honorary PhD in Online Shopping for green products!
I hope you like the site 🙂
